Delete your account

You can delete your IjaChat account yourself, in the app. Knowing your name is not enough for anyone else to delete it: a deletion request is accepted only from your signed-in account, or from the email address confirmed on it.

In the app

  1. 1

Open IjaChat and tap the Me tab.

  2. 2

    Tap Settings, then Account.

  3. 3

Under Danger zone, tap Delete account.

  4. 4

Type the confirmation word the app shows, enter your password if your account has one, then tap Delete my account.

If Delete my account stays greyed out, type DELETE in capital letters.

What happens next

Your account is deactivated at once and signed out everywhere, and the app shows the date it will be deleted.

Changed your mind? Sign in before that date and tap Cancel deletion in Settings, then Account.

If you are in the Creator Program, you leave it and your Shop closes as soon as the deletion is scheduled, and your pending sales and gifts go back to the people who paid for them. Cancel deletion does not undo any of this.

If you can’t open the app

Sign in on any phone the way you usually do, then follow the steps above. If you forgot your password, a recovery code or the email confirmed on your account gets you back in.

You can also write to us from the email address confirmed on your account. We reply to that address to check the request is yours, and nothing is deleted before you answer.

privacy@ijachat.app

An account with no confirmed email can only be deleted from the app, because nothing else shows it is yours.

What is deleted and what is kept

We keep each kind of record for the time given in the privacy policy’s retention list, and no longer.

  • Messages: until you delete them or your account is deleted. A copy of a reported message is also kept in the report, for as long as the Reports line below says
  • Photos, videos, voice notes and files you send: until you delete them or your account is deleted. A record of each one stays after that, with no set period: its type, size and file name and, for a photo or video, a very blurred preview, or for a voice note, the shape of its sound. When your account is purged, a voice note that was turned into text also keeps that text, with no set period
  • Your profile, ranking points and badges, companion memory and the rest of your account: until you remove them or your account is purged
  • Stories: 1 day after posting, and the record of who viewed one, 1 day after the view
  • Your notifications: 90 days
  • Your recent searches: 30 days after your last search
  • Live location: the record of a live location share, 1 day after the time the share was set to end, even if you stopped it sooner. The last position shared stays in the message until the message is deleted
  • Sign-in records (each signed-in device, with a hashed internet address): until 30 days after the sign-in would have expired, which is at most 30 days after the app last renewed it. Signing out does not delete the record sooner
  • Daily usage counts (how much you used each counted feature on each day, such as call minutes): 7 days
  • Activity records: 400 days, and erased when your account is purged. The daily totals made from them name no member and are kept for the same time
  • Safety records (blocks and unblocks, mutes and unmutes, leaves, notification setting changes, and turning companions off or on): 30 days, and erased as soon as you ask to delete your account
  • Records of the lines companions chose, used for learning: 30 days
  • Copies prepared for learning: deleted once the learning program has used them, and at the latest 48 hours after they are made
  • Records of each companion reply, which keep what you wrote to the companion in a simplified form: 30 days
  • Screenshot records: 90 days
  • Call records (who called whom, when and for how long): 365 days, also after an account is deleted, because they are the other callers’ history too
  • Creator ID check photos: deleted once staff decide, and at the latest 30 days after they are sent
  • Creator statistics: 400 days
  • Weekly quests: what you completed each week, until your account is purged, and the record of each step counted, 21 days
  • Your data export: deleted 7 days after it is ready
  • Deleted accounts: purged 30 days after the deletion request
  • After the purge, the account’s name stays reserved for 30 days, linked to no account, so that nobody can take it at once
  • What you share with other members, after your account is purged: the empty place of each message you sent, your place in the chats and rooms you were in, the invite links you made, and other members’ reactions to you and mentions of you keep your account id and nothing you wrote, with no set period, because they are part of the other members’ history. What you wrote to describe a room, group chat or voice room (its name, description or announcements) and the name of an emoji or sticker pack you made stay with it, because other members still use it
  • Reports (the reason, any details the reporter wrote and a copy of any reported message): 2 years, also after the reporter’s or the reported member’s account is deleted
  • Our team’s notes on a report: kept with no set period, also after the report itself is deleted and after either member’s account is deleted, with account ids and the text of the note
  • Our team’s moderation records about an account (each warning, mute, suspension, ban or content removal, each badge or role change, each feature granted, and the notes our team writes), with the reason given: kept with no set period, also after the account is deleted, with account ids and that written text
  • Appeals (what you wrote in an appeal and our team’s answer): kept with no set period, also after your account is deleted, with account ids and that written text
  • The audit log of what our team and our systems do to accounts (who did what, to which account, when and why): 3 years, kept after an account is deleted
  • Records of each time staff revealed an account’s email or phone: 2 years
  • Creator Program records (each application, your creator status and its history, and the result of each ID check with any note our team wrote, never the ID photos): kept with no set period, also after your account is deleted. An application still waiting when you delete your account is withdrawn
  • Purchases, credits, creator earnings and payouts, with the bank details each payout request carries: kept after an account is deleted, because accounting and tax law require it. A creator’s Shop items keep their title and description with the records of their sales. A creator’s legal name and saved bank account are also kept after the account is deleted, even if no payout was ever sent
  • Backups of our database: up to 5 weeks, then replaced by newer ones
